The below-zero weather experienced in upstate New York can come as a surprise for FM student from out of the area or out of the country.
Dasha Stubbs, a freshman at FM said, “I am not ready for this weather. In the city it never goes below zero. I don’t even know how I am going to get through this winter. Hopefully the school maintains the heat within the dorms.”
This kind of weather is a normal thing for local students and staff members like, Nicoy Pusey, Associate Director of Res. Life and Housing.
“Students need to get their proper winter apparel as the temperature decreases. The most important thing is to stay warm so you can still make it to ALL of your classes!” said Pusey.
Pusey’s support for going to classes in the cold temperatures, however, is not supported by FM freshman, Arnold Salcedo who thinks, “There should be no classes; it is too cold for students to walk the path to and from class.”
Although, the decreasing temperature cannot be stopped, there are things you can do to prepare yourself for the cold days to come. Chad Foster, a sophomore at FM, has tips on some things you can wear to stay warm. Foster said, “There is no such thing as too much layers. Bundle up! Make sure to wear extra sweaters and shirts under your coats and thermals to go underneath your clothing, and you can’t forget about the hats, scarves and gloves! It’s no joke out here in the winter! Get prepared!”
